Girl Scout 50th Anniversary

Old Cowtown Museum will host a 50th Anniversary of their partnership with Girl Scouts of the Kansas Heartland. The event will occur on July 26th from 10 am-4 pm. Reduced admission of $5.00 will be available to past particpants.

The day will include girls in uniform giving formal interpretations of different exhibits, representing their participation from 1958 – 1976. The day will also include living history activities that reflect the programmatic change from 1976 to present, when girls went from "guides" to presenting and participating in Living History Experiences, while dressed in time period attire. These include lessons in the school house, baking cookies and sand tarts at the Wulf House, sewing on the treadle machine and many more activities to portray domestic Victorian life on the frontier. All guests are invited to participate in the scout activities as well. As a special treat, Yvonne Larsen of Waterville, KS will present and ongoing interpretation her portrayal of a woman crossing the prairie through Nan’s Covered Wagon. There will also be a static display of pictures and text documenting the program history. A tea for past staff members will be held at 10:30 and 2:00. A commemorative program will be held at 3:30 and refreshments for the visiting public will follow. Free Commemorative books will be provided to each guest, with commemorative t shirts and badges available for sale.
