Inventory
As curator of collections, one important task of managing the
collections is conducting inventories. Using my computer program Past
Perfect, I choose a location and check each item.
There are two goals when doing an inventory. First and foremost, I
make sure the item is in the location it is supposed to be. Second, a
condition report is done on the spot, noting any defects or breaks and
comparing it to any already listed.
While doing inventories isn’t always possible each year, the idea of
having an updated inventory is most important to a museum collection.
This summer I had the help of my summer volunteer David to conduct
multiple building inventories. The larger spaces we tackled this year
were the Murdock House, the General Store, and the Munger House.
Having another person with me to assist is critical and a proper use of
time. Thank you David for helping yet again this summer.
