As part of the curatorial department’s strategic plan, I am creating virtual exhibits to post online. Viewable currently on our Curatorial Facebook page, these exhibits will feature collection items not currently on permanent display at Old Cowtown Museum.
The first virtual exhibit features a tool collection.
In 1979, Old Cowtown Museum received a sizeable donation of photographs and tools from the descendants of the Williams brothers. They used these items in a local business. Among the items we have include chisels, planes, and drill bits.
In 1886, F.A. Williams and his brother built the Fourth Avenue Planing Mill. Located at 202 Fourth Avenue, the mill was dedicated to manufacturing sashes and doors, windows and doorframes, moldings, wooden columns, and brackets, among other things.
I will continue creating and posting virtual exhibits from now on. Be on the lookout for more to come.
