So Melodramatic — in a good way!
Melodrama is a form of theater that was hugely popular in the Victorian era, especially in the old west. These plays feature stock characters (usually a maiden in peril, a dastardly villain, a dashing hero) in exaggerated scenarios that run the full gamut of love, betrayal, danger, sacrifice and redemption. Misadventure ensues, with plenty of plot twists puns along the way. Audience participation is encouraged to ensure a happy ending, with the bad guy ALWAYS getting what's coming to him!
The Empire House Players are a group of volunteers who bring this theatrical art to the stage at Old Cowtown Museum. Yes, it's true— the director, backstage crew, cast, box office, and concessions, are all fabulous, and fabulously generous, volunteers!
Proceeds from these performances and any donations made go right back into making these shows possible! Stop by every other weekend to catch a 15-minute "mini-melodrama" for free, with your admission to Old Cowtown, or reserve your tickets today for one of our upcoming hour and a half long family-family productions!
